01: Experience Flow
With soft, subtle lighting and music, this installation will set a majestic stage from which visitors can experience first-hand stories of the uplifting and transformative power of Gospel music.
02: Visual Direction
Inspired by the Kehinde Wiley’s Lamentation exhibition. The stained glass windows and paintings show strong visual expression, which is in line with the aesthetics of African American churches.
A more in-depth study of stained glass art from the aspects of pattern, portrait, music, gospel symbolism and typography, etc., used it as the main visual direction for the following design explorations.
04: Paper Sketch
Based on the interview script, the quick draft is designed to determine the appropriate visual hierarchy and motion approaches of the main keyframes.
Five Stories reflect a variety of views from choir participants, congregants, musicians, accompanists, and etc.
06: Font Invention
A custom font is created for the text on the ribbon, which is a very effective method for visual design and motion design.
Test font size, color calibration and motion speed on the real size projection area.
08: Onsite Installation
Onsite tests include motion Sensors, lighting adjustments and sound control.
